Privacy Policy

Who we are

Faraway ("we," "us") is a private journaling and keepsake app for people living far from home. This policy applies to the Faraway iOS app and describes how your information is handled, including under the GDPR for users in the EU/EEA and the UK, and the CCPA for California residents.

What we collect

Nothing. Faraway has no sign-up, no login, and no user accounts. We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, GPS location, advertising identifier, or any usage or analytics data.

The app makes no network requests at all. Once installed it works fully offline, including its fonts, which are bundled inside the app rather than fetched from the internet. That is also why it works on a bad connection in another country.

Where your content lives

• On your device only. The letters, postcards, photos, and place tags you create are stored in Faraway's own storage on your iPhone.
• Place tags are yours, not GPS. A tag like "From Berlin" is text you type or choose. Faraway never reads your device location, in the foreground or the background.
• Your photos never leave your phone. An attached photo is saved inside the app on your device and is not uploaded anywhere.
• No cloud sync, no cross-border transfer. This version does not sync between devices and does not send anything to our servers, because we operate no servers for this app. Nothing of yours crosses a border.
• iCloud device backups. If Apple's iPhone backup is switched on, your Faraway content may be included in that encrypted backup of your device. That backup is between you and Apple under Apple's privacy policy — we have no access to it.

Deleting your data

You can delete individual letters inside the app at any time. Deleting the Faraway app from your iPhone permanently removes all of its stored content from your device.

Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side and no request you need to send us.

What we never do

• We never sell or rent personal information — we hold none.
• We never use your letters or photos for advertising or to train any model.
• We never show third-party ads in the app.
• We never track your location, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
• We use no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs.

Third-party services

Apple distributes Faraway through the App Store. Apple may provide us with anonymous, aggregated App Store statistics such as total downloads by country. This is not linked to you and never includes your content.

Faraway contains no other third-party services, SDKs, or trackers.

Purchases

This version of Faraway is free and contains no purchases. Premium features appear in the app marked as coming soon. If paid features are introduced later, Apple will process the payment — we would never receive your card details — and this policy will be updated before that version ships.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. Because Faraway holds no personal data about you on any server, and we act as controller for no personal data you enter, these rights are satisfied by design: your content is already exclusively in your own possession. You may still contact us with any question, and EU/EEA and UK users have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. California residents have equivalent rights under the CCPA; since we do not sell personal information, no opt-out is required.

Children

Faraway is intended for users 16 and older and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If a future version changes how data is handled, we will update this page and note the change in the app before it takes effect.
